I have the same problem. In fact because I always have so much going on in my head in order to concentrate I have to have some sort of outside distraction to force me to focus on one thing. People hate me durring tests, I'm the one tapping my pencil.

If it's easier for you, you can try what I do. Instead of writing one story I write vignettes (short, impressionistic scenes that focus on one moment or give a particular insight into a character, idea, or setting). They're short snippets of basically anything. You can compile a book of them.

That's a great suggestion. I think that's what I've tried to do with The Balcony.

Haha, don't test with me. I make some of the strangest noises durring a test sometimes. I've taught myself how to whistle sucking breath in and blowing it out.
